• Asylum: Immigrants may be able to stay in the United States if they can demonstrate that it is unsafe to return to their home country due to political, religious, social or gender based persecution.
• Adjustment of status: In some cases, an individual may be able to lawfully change his or her immigration status to permanent resident.
• Appeals: An individual may be able to appeal a removal or deportation order to the Board of Immigration Appeals.
